Fair Trade Towns USA signs are posted at the city's four main entrances. Pictured representing Fair Trade Towns Fond du Lac are, from left: Jane Braun, Village Market; Kevin Westphal, City of Fond du Lac; Anne Lemke, Moraine Park Technical College; Julia Cartwright, Just Fare Market; Howie Zanto, Living Light Studio; and Julie Balson, Gallery and Frame Shop.

FOND DU LAC – Coming in from the city’s four corners, visitors and residents alike will see white, blue and brown signs marking Fond du Lac as a “Fair Trade Town.”

Found at 1045 E. Johnson St., 790 W. Johnson St., 1047 S. Main St., and 100 feet west of South Seymour Street on Military Road, the signs show Fond du Lac’s commitment to social justice and fair trade, which began five years ago.

The city became the United States’ 32nd Fair Trade Town in May 2013 when a volunteer steering committee, along with the City of Fond du Lac City Council, gathered to lead community organizations, cafes and retail in the effort, said Anne Lemke, who volunteers to promote fair trade in Fond du Lac.
